Paralegal
Rachel’s journey to becoming an attorney begins in the legal community of Southern California. As a paralegal she assisted her father’s personal injury law firm. After working there for a number of years, she decided to go to law school. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Saddleback College and a Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from the University of Akron School of Law.
Rachel then took the opportunity to work as a part-time associate at a law firm. She also worked as a law clerk in the private sector. But her true passion is writing. In addition to writing, she enjoys weightlifting, volunteering and reading.
The most exciting aspect of her career is her relationship with Mike. They moved in together after she attended Columbia Law School. However, she soon learns that he has been a scoundrel. Eventually, they both have to leave the city. When he returns, she finds it difficult to adjust to working for the firm again.
Having said that, she has to face the fact that she is not the only paralegal in town. In fact, there are plenty of other paralegals who are out there working their asses off.
Rachel’s abilities as a lawyer are put to the test in season six. Her biggest challenge is keeping her secret from her parents. This is especially difficult when she has to contend with her first ever opposing counsel.
Although the LSAT has no bearing on her admission to Harvard Law School, she takes the opportunity to study for it anyway. Luckily, she passes.
For her efforts, she earns a small round of applause. She was even able to convince Jessica to pay for her tuition. During her time in law school, she made it onto the Dean’s Honor Roll.
Columbia Law School
The Columbia Law School is one of the top law schools in the world. Located in New York City, it offers an exciting learning environment that draws applicants from around the world. There are several different degree programs to choose from, ranging from a Master of Laws (LL.M.) to a Doctor of Science of Law (JSD).
Applicants to Columbia Law School are required to submit two letters of recommendation. These should be written by faculty members who have evaluated the applicant in an academic capacity.
If an applicant has significant job experience, he or she may also wish to submit professional references. An individual who has been a teacher or mentor to an applicant should be able to write an impressive letter of recommendation.
In addition to submitting an application, applicants should also write a personal statement. This should be about two pages long, and should be double-spaced. Applicants should consider their background and the subject matter they will study at the law school.
Columbia law school offers Early Decision and Regular Decision methods. Early Decision is a streamlined procedure that costs less in time and money. To take advantage of this program, a candidate must submit an application by November 15.
Upon acceptance, an early decision applicant will be offered admission. However, some early-decision applicants will be notified that their application has been denied. Their applications will then be reevaluated in April as part of the regular applicant pool.
Candidates should also be prepared to submit a video conference interview. This gives the admissions committee a better idea of what the candidate’s goals are. It also allows the candidates to see more about Columbia and its admissions process.
Chicago-Kent College of Law
Chicago-Kent College of Law is the second oldest law school in Illinois. It is located in the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) campus. With its high tech environment, it offers a challenging curriculum that prepares students for the competitive world of law.
Chicago-Kent offers a diverse student body, with students from all over the world. Over 30 percent of the 2022 entering class are students of color. A recent class included students from Argentina, Zambia, and other countries.
A number of Chicago-Kent clinics provide students with practical skills and experience in the field of law. These clinics are led by experienced practitioners and allow students to work with local communities.
Chicago-Kent College of Law also offers a wide range of study abroad programs. Students can travel to Denmark, New Zealand, or Germany. This allows students to get an in-depth legal education and learn about new and emerging areas of law.
A unique six-credit program known as the Semester Law Firm Associate Program allows students to work for academic credit at Chicago-based law firms. Unlike other law schools, students are required to spend at least 24 hours a week at the firm.
The school’s faculty includes leading scholars in the areas of comparative and international law. They publish a variety of leading texts and articles.
Students can gain valuable legal experience by completing externships with public interest organizations and supervising attorneys. Those seeking a more practice-based learning experience can take advantage of the Praxis Certificate Program. Each section of the Praxis focuses on a particular area of law, and students receive academic credit for their work.
The school’s location in Chicago makes it a prime location for students to make an impact in the legal field. Nearby employers include a number of top-tier law firms.
University of St. Thomas School of Law
Located in downtown Minneapolis, the University of St. Thomas School of Law is a Catholic graduate school focusing on practical training. It is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and is accredited by the American Bar Association.
The LLM in US Law program pairs students with local attorneys. This gives them an insider’s view of the American legal system. In addition, they have the opportunity to participate in business externships for academic credit.
Students are taught skills such as drafting client letters and researching case law. They also receive mentoring from faculty members and other practicing attorneys. As a result, students can develop important job skills during their semester-long externships.
Graduates are employed in a variety of careers. For example, they can work in government, in business, or in the private sector. Approximately 80% of graduates start their career in Minnesota. Most choose to work for a law firm, while a minority chose positions in the government or in the public interest.
The university’s LLM in Organizational Ethics and Compliance is one of only two programs in the United States that is accredited by AACSB International. Lawyers working in human resources, accounting, and risk management may find this program beneficial.
Among its other programs, the school offers a competitive moot court program. Faculty regularly publish articles in scholarly journals and testify in Congress. These opportunities provide excellent opportunities to make connections with fellow law students.
While the law school’s curriculum emphasizes the practical aspects of practicing law, it is also committed to teaching students about the values of social justice. The school’s diverse faculty is consistently recognized as some of the top professors in the country.
Relationship with Mike
If you are looking for an exciting relationship with Mike at law school, you will be disappointed. Unlike Rachel, Mike comes across as naive. In fact, you could almost say that he is a side character.
While he is not one of the main characters, Mike is a big part of the show. He gets involved in a few key cases. For example, he helps out with a deal when Louis Litt’s deal with Charles Forstman falls through.
Another storyline involves Mike’s love life. He has feelings for Jenny Griffith, Trevor’s girlfriend. However, he is hesitant to reveal this to her because he fears she will reject him.
One of his biggest secrets is that he doesn’t actually have a law degree. But it is something he would like to tell her.
The true story behind this is a bit of a mystery. His mentor, however, plays the role of a reluctant mentor.
The secret is that he didn’t get a degree from Harvard. It is a matter of record though, as his father, Gordon Specter, was a saxophone player.
Moreover, he took a law school test for others. This is not something you should do in real life.
In addition, the above-mentioned “best” law school education isn’t the only thing he learns during his tenure at the firm. He also gains an invaluable skill when he uses a lie detector to catch a client’s accomplice.
Lastly, he tries to win back the trust of Louis and Sheila, who are now married. However, his efforts come to naught.
Aside from the naivety of his decision, Mike is unable to move forward with his career as an attorney. Harvey’s best friend Jessica Ross is a big part of the problem.
