Lawyers typically make a good living as attorneys; however, their salaries often depend on practice area and location. A specialty such as corporate law or intellectual property can make an incredible impactful difference on how much an attorney earns.

Lawyers entering Big Law firms can often earn hundreds of thousands to millions in starting salary. But what about outside this arena?

1. David Boies

Boies is known for his soft-spoken yet aristocratic demeanor; however, his legal approach is cunning and relentless. As the go-to attorney for powerful people and institutions – such as Harvey Weinstein’s high-profile suit against Boies! – his expertise is being called on in cases that are revolutionizing law and politics as well as helping reshape corporate America by challenging antitrust laws or representing corporations against claims of sexual discrimination litigation.

Boies Schiller Flexner is under his control as Chairman and Managing Partner, with Boies taking great pleasure in running it smoothly with steady business activity resulting in him making significant profit (his hourly rate is reported as $1950). Boies is widely considered a master of US law as well as being an intimidating adversary in court cases.

As one of America’s premier trial lawyers, he can recall with precise detail some of the seminal cases that have shaped US life and law over the years. With an unrivalled memory he is one of America’s premier trial attorneys.

Boies is known for his relentless cross-examination tactics in court, having represented OJ Simpson during his murder trial and winning many other high-profile cases. Additionally, Boies is widely revered legal author.

At his private practice and pro bono work, Mr. Epstein is well known. Most recently, he assisted in closing Backpage – an online sex trafficking site – while serving victims such as Jeffrey Epstein – a wealthy financier accused of running an international sex trafficking network.

In 2009, Boies and former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson successfully challenged California’s Prop 8, which banned same-sex marriage. Although widely criticized by both left and right wing critics alike, Boies continued pushing his case forward, proclaiming its success worth all its risks and criticism. Now, he helps couples commemorate their wedding anniversaries. Highly competitive and not afraid to take on complex cases even if there’s little chance of winning, he worked tirelessly to get his case against Prop 8 heard by the US Supreme Court; was one of several attorneys helping challenge an Obama-era ban on prisoner torture; argued Theranos case alleging massive fraud over its claims about its revolutionary blood test technology;

2. Daniel Petrocelli

Daniel Petrocelli has earned the reputation as one of Los Angeles’s premier entertainment litigators. A partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, and chairman of its Trial Practice Committee. Acclaimed for his stellar litigation skills serving entertainment companies, talent, investors, antitrust, intellectual property, profit participation claims.

Attorney Petrocelli shot to national prominence after holding OJ Simpson civilly liable for the 1994 deaths of Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson on behalf of their families, becoming an instant celebrity after successfully representing Jeffrey Skilling during his notorious Enron prosecution, defending Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao “Fight of the Century”, and representing Travis Scott during criminal investigations and lawsuits related to Astroworld crowd crush.

Petrocelli’s Trump University case represents a serious challenge that could expose him to embarrassment as he prepares to make his presidential bid at the Republican convention in July. Trump has attacked U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel for being both Mexican and Democrat – an accusation which Curiel denies. It remains to be seen if Petrocelli’s longtime support of Hillary Clinton will influence his representation; nonetheless, colleagues describe him as both tough and impressively well-researched when cross-examining witnesses.

Work colleagues of Petrocelli say his dedication is apparent, yet he doesn’t let politics influence his judgement. One former colleague noted, “He is an accomplished litigator who knows how to win.”

He is admitted to practice before all California state and federal courts, including federal District Courts for Southern and Eastern California Districts, while also holding membership with American Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association.
