Attorney General Barr is now consulting for the Center for Legal Action. He hopes to recruit top litigators and assist them with winning cases related to regulatory and constitutional battles.
Barr had previously been known as an outspoken conservative who would stand up to the executive branch, yet now has been revealed as being in league with President Trump and serving his interests.
1. He’s a liar
As Barr appears before Congress this week, he’ll face questions from lawmakers and the public alike on just how far-reaching his lies have been and which answers we may find. Eisen’s book provides us with that record; thus helping to provide answers.
He will defend his summary of the Mueller report and other statements that have since been proven false.
Barr was initially seen as an independent thinker, but he has become an unwitting tool of Donald Trump. In his recorded testimony he suggested that anyone who disagreed with Trump on any issue had lost contact with reality; later he repeated the President’s conspiracy-free claims about election fraud even though experts unanimously agree such fraud would be detected by safeguards built into every elections office; finally he will need to justify his decision to retaliate against whistleblowers who pointed out possible illegal behavior, not just one part of his damage done to both parties involved.
2. He’s a thief
Graduate of Columbia University with a master’s in Chinese studies, Barr served as congressional liaison at the CIA before joining President George H.W. Bush’s Justice Department to handle foreign policy. Later he entered private practice before returning as Trump appointee.
Barr writes in his book that his time spent at the Justice Department was “an honor.” He indicated his belief that Democrats were engaged in an orchestrated campaign to destroy America and they were pitted against one another as adversaries of both his and Trump’s political ideologies.
He writes that Barr’s allegiance to President Donald Trump cost him credibility in Washington and led to his dismissal from his AG position. Barr also points out that attempts at holding executive branch officials in contempt have failed due to courts refusing to enforce penalties against them; it makes it even more vital that he returns to private life before Trump leaves office.
3. He’s a liar
As soon as he took office, Barr quickly assumed the role of being Trump’s personal lawyer. He rushed out a misleading summary of the Mueller report that put Trump in an ideal light while simultaneously holding an embarrassing press conference to justify his attempts at obstruction of investigation.
Barr has also made numerous false allegations regarding voter fraud. For example, he asserted that voting systems manufactured by Dominion Voting Systems had been compromised despite it being completely false.
Barr has often intervened in criminal cases in ways that benefit the White House, such as dismissing charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn or suggesting lighter sentences than what federal prosecutors had sought for Trump confidant Roger Stone. These actions have only served to reinforce perceptions that Barr is acting more like an attorney for President Donald Trump than an impartial head of Justice Department.
4. He’s a liar & a thief
Barr’s summary of Mueller’s report has had an enormous effect on public perception and political calculations, yet when speaking before Congress last year he also made many statements to the public that have since been proven false.
Barr was supposed to serve as an impartial legal representative. Instead, he ran interference for President Obama’s corrupt administration while validating absurd allegations of voter fraud as “real facts.”
Holding the Line: Inside the Nation’s Most Powerful US Attorney’s Office and Its Battle with the Trump Justice Department by Bloomberg Opinion columnist Norman Eisen documents the damage that Barr has done by his actions, making this book fascinating reading as the attorney general testifies before Congress. Barr should be held responsible for making false claims to both the public and Congress including falsely asserting that White House fully cooperated with Mueller investigation; which has now become evident from reading the full report as being false claims.
